NFPA 1851 Seminars a Tremendous Success!

Recently Bergeron Protective Clothing sponsored seminars in both Portland Maine & Concord NH to educate and update the industry on the new changes to NFPA 1851. The attendance was great at both locations and the feedback that we got was very positive.

Bergeron would like to thank both Globe Firefighter Suits and Southern Mills for their support in making these events a success. We hope that our customers realize what a great resource both Globe and Southern Mills will be as we all implement the new changes.

We have prepared a brief summary of some of the new changes for PPE that are currently in effect:

0-3 Years From Date Garment is put in Service

  • Perform Advanced Gear Inspections annually and record findings. The performance of Advanced Inspections requires training from your gear manufacturer. We recommend 1-3 individuals from each department.

  • Perform Advanced Gear Cleaning annually. This too, is part of the manufacturer’s training. If you do not have the ability to clean gear, Bergeron Protective Clothing now offers this service.

Year 3-10 From Date Garment is put in Service

  • Perform Advance Inspection & Advanced Cleaning.

  • Begin performing the Complete Liner Inspection annually, which necessitates the separation of the thermal liner & moisture barrier. Hydrostatic testing of the moisture barrier and visual examination of the Thermal Liner is required at this time.

Year 10 From the Date of Manufacture

  • Gear is mandated to be taken out of service 10 years from the date of manufacture.

Bergeron Protective Clothing plans to schedule several locations for the newly required training in the next few months. Contact a Bergeron representative or watch for future Bergeron Bugle’s for more information.
